Hamilton Police Pipes and Drums

Hamilton Police Pipe Band was formed in 1961, and at that time, it was for only participating police officers.

The first Pipe Major was Gord Macfarlane, followed by Sandy Keith, George Henderson, Sandy Keith for his second term, Don Forgan, Peter Aumonier, Trish Kirkwood, with Peter Aumonier as Lead Instructor today.

Hamilton Police Pipe Band at first, had no kilted uniforms and wore the police uniforms in the interim. The official uniform kilts today were fashioned after those of the Glasgow Police Pipe Band, who wore the Prince Charles Edward Stuart tartan. We are proud to say that Hamilton Police Pipe Band is currently the only police band in Canada to wear this tartan that dates back to the Jacobean era for Bonnie Prince Charlie some time prior to the battle of Culloden in 1746.

The Hamilton Police Pipe Band is also the third oldest police pipe band in Canada.

PRINCE CHARLES EDWARD STEWART - several tartans are linked with Prince Charles Edward Stewart however this best known is a version of Royal Stewart with the larger area of red reduced.

Achievements

Over the years, we have had many successful seasons competing in Grade 5, Grade 4, Grade 3 and Grade 2. Currently, our organization is running both Grade 5 and Grade 4 programs including a 7 - 12 years of age junior teaching program.

• Numerous public performances, representing the Community and Hamilton Police Service
