The British Fleet, Defeated the Dutch Off the Village of Camperdown, Holland

October 11, 1797

The British Royal Navy, commanded by Admiral Adam Duncan (born in Forfar, Scotland, 1731), achieved a decisive victory over the Dutch fleet near the village of Camperdown in Holland. This naval battle was one of the most significant of the French Revolutionary Wars, effectively ending Dutch naval power for the remainder of the conflict.
