Following the Death of Queen Anne, George I Accedes to the Throne
August 01, 1714
Following the death of Queen Anne, the Throne of Great Britain and Ireland passes to George I, marking the beginning of the Hanoverian dynasty in 1714.
As a result, the second Irish Parliament of Anne’s reign is automatically dissolved, in keeping with constitutional practice at the time. George I’s accession ushers in a new political era, with growing tensions between Protestant Ascendancy interests and the evolving role of the monarchy and Parliament in Irish governance.
