The origins of Strathclyde Police Pipe Band can be traced back to 1883 with the formation of the Burgh of Govan Police Pipe Band, which was set up by popular public request.

Uniquely, the band's existence was endorsed by an act of parliament and the band shares with the 9th Battalion of the Highland Light Infantry T.A. (3Glasgow Highlanders), the distinction of being the one of the first pipe bands to be formed outwith the ranks of the British Army. Champions: 1920, 1930, 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1946, 1949, 1951, 1976, 1979, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991
